I love you grandpa. I miss you.

Last week Tuesday my grandfather passed away after a long battle with dementia. My grandfather lived a long and full life. He was WWII veteran, a member of his church, a small business owner, a fireman, a Chief of the fire department, an American Legion Commander, a city councilman, a school board member, and most importantly a husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather.

One of the hardest and at the same time awe struck moments of my grandfather’s funeral service happened while my grandfather was taken from the funeral home to the cemetery. The town he served and lived in most of his life turned out and lined the street to pay their respect as my grandfather’s casket rode on top of a fire truck as we headed to the cemetery .

I love you grandpa. I miss you.
