My review of EPhemera: What I liked and what disappointed me.
Well, I finally downloaded Ginny Owens new ep album EPhemera. After listening to it a couple of times here are my thoughts about this album.
I enjoyed all the songs on this album. The album is an acoustic album that features a piano and a guitar. By the time you get through the album you will experience the strength of Ginny’s song writing ability and hear the beauty of Ginny’s voice. Each song is able to stand on its own and can be the feature song on an album. One of the reasons why I like this album is because all of Ginny’s musical abilities are evident on this album. On this album the instrumental part of songs do not over power Ginny’s voice and singing ability like there was at times on her last full length album. In fact, this album is the closest that a person will come to hearing what Ginny sounds like at one of her shows. One of the things that disappointed me about this album was that there was no liner notes. When Andrew Osenga released his Letters to the Editor Vol. I and Vol. II ep albums as a down load he included his liner notes and art work. This seemed to make the album complete. One thing I hope is that in the future that Ginny and her very talented team will offer this as a cd that will include liner notes. Ginny and her team will have their hands full when she records many of these songs on her upcoming full length album. Since each of these songs stand on its own as the way they are, it would be a shame if some if the songs get over produced like Free from her With Out Condition album. (the song starts off with a motorcycle) In the end I believe that you will be richly rewarded if you buy this ep album. It is worth every penny you will pay for it. You just might be remind you why you became a fan of Ginny’s music in the first place.
(EPhemera is presently not available. Ginny might bring the album back in the future 5-7-09)
